Four regions, forestry know-how...
East Finland comprises four provinces: Etelä-Savo, Kainuu, North Karelia and Pohjois-Savo. These regions can be proud of their rich and well-maintained forests. East Finland has good resources of forestry know-how. We turn wood into practically anything ranging from timber to pulp, from paper to hardwood floors. Therefore it is no great mystery that the best forestry machines are manufactured in East Finland. Forestry machines are a central product segment within our versatile engineering workshop industry.
...and evolving Information Society
In addition to the natural resources, entrepreneurship is one of the central resources of East Finland. The thousands of enterprises feature success stories not only in metallic engineering and forest industry but also in growing fields such as telecommunication and other branches of hi-tech, food industry, biotechnology, electronics, process control, plastic, design and tourism. The Information Society is evolving rapidly in East Finland, greatly contributing to the economic and social development.
The gateway between the East and the West
For geographical reasons East Finland has been a bridge between Russia and the West. Trade together with industrial and cultural co-operation has resulted in an extensive contact network. The whole of Europe can benefit from our experiences and established relations. We have direct and local connections to the regions of Russia across the border. East Finland EU Office is pleased to function as your first link to the East.
Highest level R&D
High-tech products and the level of product development stand comparison with any other area in the world. For instance, we have many pioneering enterprises in the field of biotechnology. Our numerous research institutes, universities and other educational institutes characterised by their excellence are engaged in a vivid international discourse.
